Speech Act Theory are a five-piece alt-electronic outfit from Tāmaki Makaurau. Initially the studio-based project of producer Pete Hickman, the band evolved almost inevitably from the concept to fuse electronica with live instrumentation.

After releasing their debut single in 2021 through Tauranga's Blood & Wires label, 2022 has been a busy year of successive releases and high-energy gigs after a long wait through lockdowns.

Citing influences such as Radiohead, Massive Attack, Zero 7 and Portishead, Speech Act Theory are forging new ground with their own blend of well-crafted electronica, downtempo and trip hop to produce something truly alternative on the Aotearoa music scene.
