Frau Knotz - Runway Of Reality Single Release Show

The original songs of singer, pianist, producer and composer Frau Knotz will touch down at Stratford’s TET King’s Theatre on Thursday 25th May 2023. To celebrate the release of her sophomore single + video ‘Runway of Reality’, Taranaki-based electropop artist Frau Knotz (Lauren Nottingham) will perform live an array of her unique avant-pop tracks, supported on the night by drag queen extraordinaire Erika Flash.

Celebrating New Zealand Music Month, this special event will be held at the TET King’s Theatre, the location where the Runway of Reality music video was filmed, another exciting video collaboration between Frau Knotz and videographer Ben D’Ath (Drax Project, Coterie). The video features drag queen on the rise, Erika Flash (Daniel Lockett), a regular performer at Auckland’s Caluzzi Cabaret who calls Taranaki home.

Frau Knotz has you covered with all tickets including a complimentary drink and popcorn, plus bus transport from New Plymouth to Stratford and back for a small extra fee.

With an 80s darkwave dance club feel, a super catchy hook, a driving tech house beat with heavily syncopated vocals and a touch of Mulholland Drive, ‘Runway of Reality’ is Frau Knotz’ hype song, perfect for blasting in the car on a Friday night. The song explores the corners of fashion and identity, chronicling the multitude of fads and phases we pass through in our lives. “We as humans are ever-evolving,” says Lauren, “revealing and disguising facets of ourselves through the clothes we wear. I love to play dress-ups. I change the way I look often, and enjoy doing the same with my sound. This tune is theatrical and dramatic with a whole bunch of influences like Kavinsky, Vangelis (Blade Runner soundtrack) and Royksöpp.”

2022 was a breakout year for Frau Knotz. After just 3 months of developing her project, she was picked up as the opening act for Trip Change on their North Island tour to celebrate NZ Music Month. The momentum rose in September with the release of her debut single ‘Supernova’, the music video of which was featured on MTV Upload and Juice TV. ‘Supernova’ was premiered exclusively by The Most FM’s Making Tracks series, reviewed by muzic.net.nz and added to playlists of many independent radio stations nationwide. Festival highlights for 2022 include performing ‘Supernova’ with a live band curated by the Black Seeds’ frontman Barnaby Weir at TAFT’s Spiegelfest closing night, as well as ending the year with a New Year’s Eve feature performance at Taranaki’s TSB Festival of Lights.

With lyrics that draw from daring, playful scenarios to heartfelt musings faced by modern society, added to dramatic synths and driving rhythms, Frau Knotz is not afraid to expose all sides of her three-dimensional character. Her sonic palette consists of early Electronica legends such as Jean-Michel Jarre and Kraftwerk, as well as 80’s nostalgic bands like Ultravox, Tears for Fears and Pet Shop Boys. A former member of NZ Youth Choir, Frau Knotz’s voice is emotive and futuristic, often juxtaposing human tenderness and fragility with a post-apocalyptic, synthesized alter ego. Complex modulations of harmony glitter throughout her music from a university degree in Jazz.
