The Heavy Mellow is back!!! And with a new EP to boot! The Otautahi three-piece puts lo-fi misery folk through a grimy rock’n’roll ringer, making it louder! Faster! Stronger! better! They will be performing at Space Academy this music month, with support from the talented Violet French and The Horrible, and Casper Thomson.

Casper Thomson is a folk artist whose use of hypnotic repetition and dynamics weave soundscapes and tell stories firmly grounded within the streets of Christchurch, feeling right at home beneath its cloudy skies and before its barren hills.

Violet French’s matter-of-fact songs observe the poetry in each moment. Influenced by the soul-sucking minutiae of the everyday, she waits for no man. Violet is joined by her band The Horrible, a dark and mysterious entity, lacing her signature folksong with psychedelic guitar work and an astute pop sensibility.
