Tour Information
Hail, Meteor! is a bi-lingual, post-punk, death-pop band from Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Formed near the end of 2021 the band is Isobel Joy te Aho-White (bass, vocals), David Coventry (guitar, vocals), Simon Waterfield (drums, samples) and John Kingston (guitar). Hail, Meteor! is focused on dense, chaotic harmony, on gasped melody and swaying widths of space. Te Aho-White draws on the varying essences of a mixed heritage to sing post-punk psalms to existentialism, to the divine feminine, to healing, mental illness and introversion. The band’s debut EP, Fourth Horse, is available on Bandcamp, Spotify and Apple Music.

Vor-stellen (Steve Reay, Brendan Moran and Jared Johanson) is an experimental group that blends fixated guitars and drums with looped ad-hoc electronic layers producing perforated waves of uncanny, vanishing sound which echoes off the fourth wall. Vor-stellen set forth on an exploration, folding the weird and the eerie into a dark ecology of long-sound via indefatigable environments of modulation and improvisation, creating sonic counterpoints that hinge on a reanimation of musical gestures.

Steve and Brendan have worked together previously as avoid!avoid (their album Particle and Wave was released by Flying Nun in 2016) and with Jared as part of The Subliminals, from whom Flying Nun re-released a vinyl edition of their highly acclaimed album United State in 2021. In a way Vor-stellen picks up where their other projects have left off as they seek to transform pre-determined ideas of music into open-ended sound objects, untethered from any sense of homeliness.

Celine is a heavy guitar-based power trio from Auckland.  Originally active in the mid 90’s and led by Rob Lundon (Wrong White Crowd, Dam Native), Andrew Moon (Goblin Mix, RST, Cindytalk), and David HH Coventry (Clay, La Gloria and Hail, Meteor!) the band re-grouped in 2019 to record and play new music.  Returning to the live scene in 2023, with new bassist Kirsten Smith (Sperm Bank 5), and new drummer Marty Doo (Glide, Challenger 7, Beads).

Following their debut 2022 EP, The Last Days of Evolution, Celine will release a new self-titled vinyl EP later this year on Auckland’s Powertools records.  Mixed by New York based engineer Andrew Schneider (Unsane, Cave In), and mastered by Bob Weston (Shellac of North America), the recordings reflect the band’s shared love of outsider melancholic pop, 90’s noise rock and golden era Flying Nun and pairs a signature noisy pop songcraft with exacting sonic heft, played with conviction at amplifier worship volume.
