Ke lo Ke features leading international musicians from Cuba, Chile, England, and Aotearoa, igniting the stage with the sounds of Salsa, Timba, Rumba, Son, Cha-Cha-Cha, Mambo, Afro-Cuban Jazz, and Bolero. Paying tribute to the Afro-Cuban roots of the music, Ke lo Ke honours Cuban legends like Irakere, Los Van Van, Buena Vista Social Club, Alexander Abreu and Havana De Primera, and Poncho Sanchez.
Led by Isbert (Vivio) Ramos Mediaceja, a pioneer of Cuban music and dance in New Zealand, the Ke lo Ke line-up celebrates the talents of some of New Zealand’s best Latin and Jazz musicians: vocalist, Marcelo Valencia Stuardo (Chile); pianist; Dr Mark Baynes (England); bassist, Alex Griffin (Aotearoa); trumpet player, Mike Booth (Aotearoa); and percussionists’ Ignacio Valencia and Edwin Westermeier (both from Chile).
