House Concert - Carmel Courtney - 11th May
The inimitable Carmel Courtney will be accompanied by Simon Gregory at this up close and personal House Concert.
Multi-instrumentalist, Carmel is also a vocalist, composer and educator. She has been immersed in Aotearoa music scene from an early age, having been a member of the National Jazz Youth Orchestra. Her musical talents have taken her around the world, playing in many festivals, most recently in Melbourne with the wonderful show Berlin Burlesque which was born right here in Lyttelton.
As well as playing and performing, In 2007 Carmel set up and managed ‘Volcano Radio’ a community station for Lyttelton which broadcast 80 shows weekly until its home in Shadbolt House was demolished as a result of the 2011 earthquakes. In 2012 Carmel established ‘Toot Toot Sounds’, a body which provides music education within schools and which is, still on-going.
In 2016 Director Mike Friend and Carmel established a Performing Arts Programme at Lyttelton Arts Factory (LAF) with Carmel heading the Music department.
ARoad House Concerts provide an intimate space to listen to music of all genres, in a warm and relaxing environment. It is a non-profit enterprise - all proceeds go to the artists. I
