Cecile Turbine / Tough Guy
Cecil Turbine, a solo music project blending Post-rock dynamics, ambient spaciousness, and modern classical minimalism. With micro samples, loops, and a fusion of processed bass, strings, live drums, and vocals, Cecil Turbine's sound is James Blake meets Sigur Rós. Notable works include soundscapes for prestigious exhibits and dance companies, as well as successful tours across New Zealand and performances at Australian boutique festivals.
Based in Ōtepoti, Tough Guy is a solo musical experience that blends melancholic guitar loops with powerful in-your-face vocals to create a form of musical venting and cathartic release. Holding space for all the sad bois and girls across the motu, Tough Guy's eclectic style was inspired by Dunedin's own Biff Merchants and Alizarin Lizard, the post-rock soundscapes of Explosions in the sky, the eccentricity of early St. Vincent and the somber storytelling of Phoebe Bridgers and probably sounds like what Tash Sultana would sound like if she released an emo album.
