Smokey Room Records presents:
Michael Morris & The Sonic Boom (Dunedin) announce double album release and national tour.
“Love Sensation & Destination Down” will be released April 1st, featuring 22 new tracks from the 5-piece alt rock project. The band will then hit the road in celebration, with 14 live shows through NZ, mixing elements of 70’s rock with 90’s grunge into their unique and powerful sound.
In a new lineup, songwriter/frontman Michael Morris (The River Jesters / Live Like Lions) teams up with Benton Glassey (bass), Ben Morton (drums), Matthew Blick (guitar) and Jo Little (BV’s, guitar). This group of old friends will visit favourite locations and venues around their homeland, delivering high energy performances to the great people and discerning audiences of Aotearoa.
In recent years, Morris has toured Europe and NZ off the back of his first two albums (Slow Loris - 2018 and Metamorphosis - 2022). 2026 marks the year of albums 3 & 4 - created and released simultaneously as part of a hefty double dose. Recorded at Tautuku (in the remote southern land of The Catlins), Love Sensation & Destination Down is this project’s biggest and tastiest offering to date. Packed full of raw and epic new songs from the heart, this double album was mixed live by hand to ¼ inch tape at Smokey Room Records HQ.
“A new dimension, NZ polymath created niche world. Party unplugged yet entirely electrifying”
