Hailed by the New York Times for her ability to time bend, Rosie Langabeer alchemizes any manner of things into musical works.
Her methods are friendly, collaborative and experimental, held together by ancestral practices of hospitality and DIY ingenuity. The sound combines a love of free-jazz, avant garde classical music, noise and occasional genre cliches with newly invented instruments, chaotic systems and nature, often using whatever materials are at hand to shape organic, site-specific works.
An acclaimed voice in Philadelphia’s contemporary performing arts scene her work has also been presented by Chamber Music NZ, STROMA, NZSO and Jade Quartet in New Zealand, Philadelphia Live Arts Festival, Carnegie Hall, Pennsylvania Ballet and the Joyce Theatre Ballet Festival in the USA. She has performed throughout NZ and the USA as well as Mexico, the UK, France, Japan and Sri Lanka. Festival appearances include: Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival (MA, USA), the High Zero Festival of experimental and improvised music, Baltimore, (MD, USA), Vail International Dance Festival, Colorado, (USA) and Bowerbird’s John Cage Festival Philadelphia, (PA, USA).
