Two French artists, two ways of making a room go quiet.
Delphine Dora is a French pianist, organist, singer, improviser and composer, born in Paris in 1980. For nearly twenty years, she has cultivated a singular, intuitive musical language that bridges improvisation, folk music, contemporary classical music, experimental and electroacoustic music, as well as poetic expression. Deeply rooted in the present, her work explores altered temporalities and sensitive geographies, weaving a vibrant dialogue between improvisation and composition, contemporary and archaic, poetic and ineffable, the physicality of sound and the ethereal, the outer world and the inner life. Her creative approach favors openness, chance and collaboration. Delphine Dora's prolific output, both solo and collaborative – released on labels such as Recital, Modern Love, Morc, Okraïna, Feeding Tube and three:four – includes organ explorations, genre-blurring song forms, piano compositions and in situ improvisations. She has performed many times in France, Europe, Japan and Georgia, in venues ranging from underground experimental spaces to more institutional settings – including theaters, museums, art centers and renowned festivals – as well as historic churches.
Tamagawa is the solo project of French guitarist Bertrand Gaude, member of Temple Solaire and Club des Gens Spéciaux, two noise groups signed to the label. Standard hi-fi chain... but it is with Tamagawa that this musician nearly fifty years old, originally from Saint-Étienne in France, is most active, and has been for nearly twenty years... He maintains mystery around his apartment-cell from which he practically never leaves, except to tour all over the planet (over 300 concerts in Europe, Japan and the United States). Tamagawa Records alternating shimmering minimalist guitars and analog synthesizers. At the risk of seeming romantic, listening to Tamagawa (an album or a concert) could sublimate us: in his music resides an immense solitude, and silence takes the form of a minor key. Emotion forms gradually in a succession of notes whose infinite purity doesn't even give us time to blink. We are not far from the magnetic atmosphere of Wim Wenders' Paris, Texas soundtrack.
