Tour Information
Newtown Rocksteady returns to the top of the South Island for another tour schedule this summer to celebrate the release of their single, 'Shaker Maker' and is playing two shows at The Boathouse, Nelson. With a new album in the works and their single release of 'Shaker Maker', Rocksteady are keen to get back to their loyal fans in Nelson and Golden Bay. This annual tour is becoming the stuff of legend, first occurring in 2010 and never skipping a beat since. Year after year these boys have their finger on the pulse of summer (or maybe they just like the beaches).

The single “Shaker Maker”, the second from their forthcoming album, will be released in December and what better way to celebrate its release than a tour of some of the finest beaches... I mean venues, Te Wai Pounamu has to offer.

The Shaker Maker single will be available from newtownrocksteady.bandcamp.com/, where you can also check out the first single ‘Chip Away’ and two previous EPs.

Comprised of capable members of Wellington’s vibrant music scene, Newtown Rocksteady was founded in 2007 and has been deepening its connection to Jamaican music ever since. Its members have been and are involved in numerous other groups including The Nudge, Hikoikoi, Fly My Pretties, Trinity Roots, Brockaflowersaurus-rex, Fraser Ross, French For Rabbits, Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band and The Dancing and Drinking Society to name a few. As mentioned, the band has its roots firmly embedded in the traditions of Jamaican rocksteady, ska and reggae music.

Make no mistake, this music has always had an intimate connection with dancing and that legacy continues. This is groove based music that hits you in the chest then makes you move the rest. They will be spreading the love on their South Island tour in January 2016.

Newtown Rocksteady will be on tour from Jan 4th to Jan 9th. With support from Fraser Ross and

Owlet Nightjar. Check out their music:
