Paul Ubana Jones, Brendan And Alison Turner, Jess Shanks

The Iconic Paul Ubana Jones, Auckland's Brendan and Alison Turner and The Eastern's own Jess Shanks, unite under the 'How Can I Keep From Singing' banner to perform a fundraising and solidarity growing concert at Woolston's Blue Smoke this April.

Joining their show with artists such as Marlon Williams, Dark Tower, Holly Arrowsmith, Lindon Puffin and The Eastern, who amongst others performed at the very first of the 'How Can I keep From Singing' series on the 30th of March and raised over $10,000 in funds for families and victims affected by the events on March 15th 2019.

This show will be an exchange of music for funds but also a continued chance to share company and solidarity with the acts an attendees alike, this will be an intimate and powerful evening of song.

Winner of three New Zealand Music awards Paul Ubana Jones, born in London to a Yorkshire mother and a Nigerian father, Paul was playing guitar by the age of 11. Three decades and nine albums later, he continues to perform throughout New Zealand, Australia, Europe and the USA.

Having traversed the countryside for the last ten years in New Zealand’s hardest working band THE EASTERN, Jess Shanks is a renown guitar picking, banjo frailing, foot stomper with a sweet southern voice and a raft of songs built from years on the road.

Performing haunting contemporary folk tunes steeped in time and place and woven from her countless travels, Jess has cultivated an unique approach to New Zealand roots music, she has created something entirely her own, spellbinding and quintessentially kiwi.
