Arch Hill Feb News

Arch Hill Feb News

Hi all,

Happy New Year - for 2006 we are pretty much head down straight back into the thick of it at Arch Hill – with releases, gigs and radio shows.

First Releases for 2006: Luke Buda and Punches in March The first two releases for the year are a solo album from our friend Luke Buda of the Phoenix Foundation...featuring some of his mates from the Phoenix Foundation (variously most of them actually), Craig Terris from Cassette on the drums, and guest appearances form Rio Hemopo (Trinity Roots), Luke Benge (the Inkling) and others. The album is called “Special Surprise” and features the single “Sauerkraut Bossa”. Punches also have a very nice six track EP featuring the two 95bFM top ten number one songs “Four Feet” and “Day By Day”. We’ll give you more info about these releases when they hit the stores and the outside world. Also on the horizon is a new Mëstar album which has been recorded, mixed and mastered by Dale Cotton. Arch Hill also has a number of new other upcoming releases, which we will let you know about shortly.

Bachelorette Gig and Recordings Feb 14th supporting Bonnie Prince Billy at the Hopetoun Alpha in Auckland Annabel AKA Bachelorette is also heading to the semi-remote Rakaia river mouth in Canterbury to record her album in March, which is also the location of her ‘too heavy to move to Auckland’ organs. Her EP “The End of Things” seems to also have been a favorite, ending up on some notable best of 2005 lists (Grant Smithes in the Sunday Star Times and Smoke CDs) and it’s been pretty popular too – it’s now into its third pressing.

Grand Prix Gigs: Grand Prix are reminding everyone about their “Inspired” and “kick arse” album “The Way of the Racer” - which they released at the end of last year - by playing a few more shows in Auckland and Wellington Feb 10th at Bodega in Wellington with Ginger Brown Feb 25th at the Odeon in Auckland with the Broken Heartbreakers and White Swan

Arch Hill on the BBC “The Hill is Alive” Yep, that’s right we’ve got our very own radio programme on the BBC Worldservice NZ (at 810AM) called “The Hill is Alive”. We pretty much play what we like, though the general brief is to play a diverse range of NZ music – all genres and not just Arch Hill...it is mostly music, but there is also news and interviews. It just so happens next weeks show is an interview with Annabel Alpers from Bachelorette. The programme is half an hour long and broadcast twice a week at 4.30pm on Tuesday and 9.30pm on Wednesday. That’s all for now, standby for more news shortly. Regards Ben
