Cult of Luna in NZ
As unconventional, exploratory and innovative as one will find among bands of all musical persuasions, Sweden's Cult of Luna perform for the first time in New Zealand on Tuesday February 10th at Auckland's Transmission Room.
Featuring the band's full 8-person ensemble, including two live drummers, Cult of Luna play an experimental, orchestration-heavy sludge that is equally influenced by the likes of Isis and Neurosis as it is Radiohead and Tool. Massive and crushing soundscapes flirt with brooding, ambient passages leaving the listener at once pummelled by the band's intensity and lulled into a fleeting sense of serenity; dynamics coupled ably the band's lyrical approach, covering everything from the dangers of propaganda to personal spirituality and self-realisation.
With the band's latest album-de-force Eternal Kingdom making waves throughout the world for its progressive complexity and tangential conceptualism, New Zealand fans of the ever-burgeoning post-rock genre will have the chance to witness a unique and powerful live act at the peak of their mammoth powers.
