Wednesday 8th September, 2010 10:54AM
The xx have taken out the highly coveted British music award, the Mercury Prize, for their excellent debut album xx release to critical acclaim last year. They beat out 11 shortlisted acts including past winner Dizzee Rascal, Paul Weller, Foals, Mumford & Sons and Wild Beasts.
The xx join an impressive collection of artists to win the award including (a surprising number of "P" bands): Pulp, PJ Harvey, Primal Scream, Portishead, Klaxons and Franz Ferdinand.
Of course, The xx played our very first Laneway Festival at the start of the year and it's just been confirmed that Laneway will be happening again next year on Monday 31st January at a new and yet to be announced venue in Auckland - watch this space.
