PRESS RELEASE:
TrinityRoots, one of Aotearoa’s most loved and influential bands, announce their historic reformation this October.
TrinityRoots will perform together for the first time in over five years for three very special shows in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland reuniting it’s three members: Warren Maxwell (lead vocals/guitars/keyboards), Rio Hunuki-Hemopo (bass/vocals) and Riki Gooch (drums/vocals).
“I can’t wait to jam with the bros again and catch up with some old fans” says Warren Maxwell.
Joining TrinityRoots on stage are renowned local musicians Ned Ngatae (Sola Rosa), Isaac Aesili (Opensouls) and newcomer vocalist Ria Hall (Hollie Smith).
TrinityRoots’ reputation was founded as a live act, with their generous and hypnotic performances. Evidence of their live magic can be found in the recently-released Music Is Choice, a live album recorded at the group’s farewell concert at the Wellington Town Hall in 2005 and accompanied by a bonus DVD of Sarah Hunter’s documentary of the same name as well as music videos and behind the scenes footage by Chris Graham. Maxwell says “when I first watched the doco Music Is Choice I got the buzz of being at a TrinityRoots gig as an audience member… I loved hearing the dynamics of the music – from not hearing a pin drop during ‘Little Things’ to full on rock out mode in ‘Two by Two’”
During their 7 years together, TrinityRoots created a large fan base and formidable reputation. Drawing on soul, reggae, jazz and roots, they developed a style of their own that transcended genre. Indigenous, organic and utterly unique, their music was captured on their self-titled EP (2000) and two albums - True (2002) and Home, Land and Sea (2004). Since the group disbanded in 2005, all three musicians have continued to make vital music: Maxwell with his own band Little Bushman, Gooch with his Eru Dangerspiel project and production work (Hollie Smith), and Hunuki-Hemopo with Breaks Co-Op, Fat Freddy’s Drop and his own solo career.
Rediscover the magnetism of TrinityRoots live at these three extremely special performances.
It’s going to be choice.
