In The Background: Godspeed You! Black Emperor (28 Days Later)

We love a great film score here at UTR and thought it was about time we drew some attention to the composers and bands out there who's contribution to a film has left a lasting impression. So we're starting a new featured called In The Background and we'll be featuring a composer and/or band a week.

We're kicking things off with a favourite group of ours, Godspeed You! Black Emperor who's instrumental post-rock epic "East Hastings" was used throughout out Danny Boyle's zombie apocalypse 28 Days Later and served as inspiration for the director whilst developing the film. The primary composer for the film was John Murphy (Kick Ass, Sunshine, Basic Instinct, Lock Stock and Two Smokin Barrels) and elements of "East Hastings" feature heavily in his score for the film and it's sequel 28 Weeks Later.

"East Hastings" is from the Canadian group's debut album F♯ A♯ ∞ (pronounced "F-sharp, A-sharp, Infinity") and was originally released in 1997 as four tracks, each with their own title, in a limited edition LP but is now available digitally as one track.

Below are videos featuring the film version of the track and the full version if you have some time on your hands.  We've also included one of John Murphy's compositions for 28 Weeks Later along with another of his famed compositions "Adagio in D Minor" from another Danny Boyle film Sunshine.
