Press Release:
The Gaslamp Killer (Brainfeeder/USA) with Crushington (NZ)
For the first time in close to a year, The Gaslamp Killer returns to New Zealand for two exclusive nightclub shows. Along for the ride is leading local electronica heavyweights Crushington, who will be debuting their new, fully integrated live show.
Acclaimed for vigorous DJ sets and deeper leaning production work, when it comes to live performance it is The Gaslamp Killer (GLK) that is perhaps the deadliest of all the Los Angeles' era-defining Brainfeeder collective. A shaggy haired, well moustached beat scientist who dances in triple time while in the mix, both on stage and in the studio, he presents a wildly psychedelic take on hip-hop, modern beat and bass music, and the studied art of turntablism.
Originally from San Diego, GLK came into his own in Los Angeles, where co-founding the Low End Theory club night connected him with Flying Lotus and the rest of the Brainfeeder freak colony. Acclaimed across the globe for his live sets, through his production work for Gonja Sufi and series of solo EPs on Brainfeeder and Obey Records, GLK has also carved out a rep for leftfield beat workouts of an international calibre.
Having previously made New Zealand performances at Splore and Rhythm & Vines, as well as several transcendent intimate nightclub shows, GLK's reputation on our shores is well documented. This November he will return to New Zealand for two exclusive nightclub dates in Wellington and Auckland alongside rising live electronica act, Crushington.
Grounded in contemporary bass culture, while Crushington have previously been seen solely on the national dubstep circuit, their recent shift in sound has been kaleidoscopic. Referencing a gamut of sounds which take in the full archipelago of modern electronica, Crushington will soon archive this fresh direction in album form. Until then, witnessing them in concert is the only way to experience their flickering melodies, rumbling subs and unconventional song structures.
Crushington’s new live show will undoubtedly add to The GLK’s spectacle. For fans of progressive music, attendance at one of these two shows is mandatory.
