Press release:

BEYOND THE BLACK

Enter 2012 in true rock n roll style at New Zealand’s first ever heavy metal & rock New Year’s Festival.

For the first time in New Zealand’s rich musical history, the best local, national and international rock & metal acts will come together to celebrate New Year 2012 at New Zealand’s newest and heaviest festival – Beyond the Black.

Beyond The Black are psyched to announce the awesome line up for New Zealand’s first rock and metal festival.

• SHOTGUN ALLEY • DISENTOMB • INDICATOR DOGS • SINATE • IN DREAD RESPONSE • DECORTICA  • WHOLE LOTTA LED • SUBTRACT • SONIC ALTAR • TAINTED DEVILSKIN • MOLEST THE EPISCOPATE • ADVOCATES • OF BLACKEST OCEANS • BULLETBELT • DRACO AERIUS

Global rock stars Shotgun Alley have confirmed their slot for December’s festival. Described as ‘the hottest rock band to make its mark on the Kiwi music industry’, Shotgun Alley successfully supported global rock sensation Alice Cooper on his 2009 Theatre of Death tour. Sony Music quoted them as, “A modern day throwback to the seminal days of rock n roll on The Sunset Strip in the 80s and 90s. Part glam, part metal, part rock, part kick you in the teeth with an immediate round of shots of Jack Daniel’s to follow as if you were in the band yourself!”

Australian death metal band, Disentomb will make their New Zealand debut at Beyond the Black. Our trans-Tasman neighbours have promised to ‘annihilate the stage’ at the New Years Festival held in Upper Hutt, Wellington.

The collaboration of well established and up and coming artists make Beyond the Black the ultimate celebration of the rock and metal scene. With 2 studio albums behind them and a third on the way, and the recent completion of the European Funeral Nation tour, Sinate make for one of NZ’s biggest metal exports. Beyond the Black are also privileged to announce Decortica as part of the 2011 line up. Quoted by Groove Guide as ‘one of NZ’s best kept musical secrets’, Decortica have just signed with EMI and are predicted to take the world by storm.

Beyond the Black has been specifically crafted to unite rock & metal fans in one place, for one night only. It’s the first of its kind in the whole of New Zealand. Beyond the Black co-founders Tamara Buckland and Jenny George have been shown encouragement and support from huge industry names such as “The Axeman” Paul Martin, who has expressed his keen support, “After a drought of metal new years eve festivals longer than living memory, it’s awesome that finally there will be a kick ass New Years Eve Festival catered to the rock and metal fraternity!”. Co-founder Tamara Buckland says, “We want to bring together rock & metal fans from all over New Zealand and with the help of incredible bands and the support from such influential people in the business we aim to achieve this. It’s the start of something big!”

On Saturday 31st December 2011 through until New Years Day 2012, rock & metal fans alike are to unite at Trentham Racecourse, Upper Hutt, Wellington to rock into 2012, with the aid of 1 stage, 16 bands and 14 hours of solid rock & metal. Overnight camping is encouraged and a campsite is available for only $10. Tickets start from just $30 and are on sale at various outlets all over New Zealand.
