Off the back of the recent radio success of their two self-recorded singles ‘Better Coast’ and ‘Scientific Life’, Dunedin-based duo Two Cartoons are gifting their debut EP ‘Jelly Tip Lips’ to audiences for free via their Bandcamp page on February 28th.

Two Cartoons are two guys making friends through the medium of music with an aim of putting smiles on faces and bringing cool dance moves back to the dance floor. The creative collaboration of Brad Craig and Isaac Macfarlane, Two Cartoons are a young emergent band that have already seen a high level of success, preparing them to take both local and international stages by the horns. After being featured on the 2011 NZ CMJ Music compilation album and becoming the first Dunedin-based band to receive NZ On Air funding under the new scheme for the track ‘Better Coast’, this talented young duo are set to make a big splash in 2012.

Jelly Tip Lips is the sound of innocent curiosity expressed through two guys clinging to their youth and simpler times. Created with an overarching need for uncomplicated fun, this EP brings together the raw talent of Two Cartoons and presents it in dynamically polished package locally mixed by William Powell and mastered by the genius of Dale Cotton (HDU, Dimmer, Sola Rosa).

The five tracks on Jelly Tip Lips highlight the duo’s musical growth and depth and showcases increased production values from their debut release of mid 2011. Melodically driven and reverb-heavy, the sound of Two Cartoons is youthfully free in its simple yet sonically striking guitar and drum tracks. The end result illustrates a melange of Beach Boys and Beatles-era harmonies sufficed with tinges of contemporary acts such as Wavves and Best Coast.

The EP has been released through Dunedinmusic.com on Tuesday the 28th of March via iTunes  and on the bands Bandcamp page.

Following the launch of Jelly Tip Lips, Two Cartoons are set to release the ‘Better Coast’ music video with a nation-wide tour to follow. Stay tuned!
