Press Release:

CHARTFEST Christchurch’s annual music industry event returns to the city for it’s fourth year this May. CHARTFEST, like everything in Christchurch since 22nd February 2011 is in a transitional phase but in 2012 the key intention is to support new emerging venues and our struggling artist community. Instead of one large event on one day in NZ Music Month we are spreading CHARTFEST 2012 over 4 weekends in May to cater for varying genres of contemporary music. The events kick off with an official launch party in association with the Christchurch City Council at the CPIT Rakaia Centre on May 1st.

CHARTFEST 2012 will ultimately provide gigs for over twenty of the city’s music groups at five different locations throughout the month of May. These events are designed to show case and celebrate some of the exceptional talent that exists here in Christchurch, while providing a highly enjoyable and entertaining experience for Christchurch music fans to attend free of charge.

Like everything in Christchurch recently CHART has also undergone some transformations. Jeff Fulton ended his 5 years as CHART’s Manager in December and we sincerely thank Jeff for his sterling efforts and commitment to the local music industry during that time. Jeff has been replaced by Marc Royal as CHART’s new Manager effective February this year. Marc has been involved with the music industry for over 15 years having spent time working in both Australia and New Zealand. Marc is an experienced roadie, stage technician, and musician and has recently played a key role record production and artist management.

“I look forward to sharing my experiences and support as a musician and manager, and offering my ideas and insights into the future developments of CHART and the Christchurch music scene. This city has been responsible for producing some of the finest talent in the country and I will be doing my utmost to see it return to being the thriving musical community that it once was". - Marc Royal Marc will be supported by Nick Vassar who has been our website coordinator as well as part-time assistant to the Manager’s role for the past 2 years. So some changes at the helm but CHART are committed to providing support wherever we can for the local community and working towards rebuilding our highly successful Christchurch music industry.
