Spectrum and Dimmer Tour
ENGLISH UNDERGROUND MUSIC LEGEND SONIC BOOM ANNOUNCES SPECTRUM NEW ZEALAND TOUR WITH DIMMER
Fans of Spacemen 3, Spectrum and E.A.R. will be delighted to learn that Peter Kember -- aka Sonic Boom, and the man behind all three of those psychedelic musical ventures --is touring New Zealand in March.
Playing under his Spectrum moniker, Kember is promising to play songs from all the classic incarnations that made him one of the most admired and influential underground acts of the 80s and 90s.
And in a bonus for fans of drone that goes pop, Shayne Carter’s Dimmer will be performing alongside Spectrum throughout their New Zealand and Australian tours.
Dimmer opened for Spectrum at LA venue The Echo last year, and (unsurprisingly) a mutual musical admiration bond was forged, leading to this tour.
This is Sonic Boom’s first ever visit to the Antipodes in a career that stretches back to when he formed Spacemen 3 with Jason Pierce in the mid-80s. After Spacemen 3 fell apart, Pierce went on to form Spiritualized, while Kember began recording as Spectrum.
A new Spectrum EP and album are due for release later this year - the first in a decade. In March, a Spectrum collaboration album with the legendary Memphis maverick Jim Dickinson is also due out
And Carter has begun recording work on Dimmer’s fourth album with his band featuring Dino Karlis (drums, HDU), James Duncan (Punches, SJD) and Kelly Steven (bass, Punches).
Tickets for these shows that promise to carve open minds and let the music run free go onsale from Ticketek and Real Groovy outlets on 14 February.
