With a name befitting the complexity and zeal of their musical stylings, Austin, Texas natives …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead arrive in New Zealand in early June to perform in Wellington and Auckland as the final dates of a massive globe-spanning tour in promotion of their critically-acclaimed new album ‘The Century of Self'.
The band, colloquially known simply as ‘Trail of Dead', have stormed into the public eye since their self-titled debut album in 1998, with following albums ‘Madonna' and ‘Source Tags and Codes' further propelling the band's eclectic blend of art rock, folk noise and indie stylings to staggering levels of mainstream recognition. With this new-found territory came appearances on David Letterman and Conan O'Brien, in addition to key spots on major festivals and touring circuits the world over.
Having parted ways with Interscope Records, the band returned to a genuinely independent approach with the release of ‘The Century of Self'; their boldest and most stylistically ambitious record to date. Taking elements of the formulas of their previous releases and yet reinventing themselves for a career outside a major label's influence, the album showcases an act not content to artistically stagnate and wither; an attitude likewise reflected in their live performance, which NME described as “boundless energy….a band whose allure is primal, and as loud as a temper tantrum”.
