Gig Information

The Ministry of Folk and host-band Hoop are very excited to welcome Tom Cunliffe and GitBox Rebellion to our forthcoming shindig.

Tom Cunliffe was born in London, moved to NZ and eventually ended up in a cool place called Auckland. His early influences were rappers and he started writing poetry as a teenager before falling for folk music in a big way and absorbing the classic works of the great folk artists. His favourite writer is Bob Dylan and one of his band described his sound as Townes Van Morrison. Check out his awesome albums on streaming sites and prepare for a beautiful set of exquisite songs at MOF.

Gitbox Rebellion get their name from GITBOX: Pidgin for the group's chosen instrument, the steel-string acoustic guitar... and REBELLION: A subversion of the orthodoxy in the guitar's native jazz/blues/rock tradition. Unashamedly analog, Gitbox Rebellion is a completely unique 7-piece guitar ensemble, playing original music composed by and for the group. Orchestral & atmospheric, composed and chaotic, the music spans and defies the genres of jazz, rock, folk and chamber music. Founded by guitar legend Nigel Gavin in 1988, Gitbox have toured nationally and released 2 albums.

It promises to be another epic night at the Ministry with Hoop, GitBox Rebellion and Tom Cunliffe all playing a set of tunes.

Come along and bring your friends and perhaps a little BYO tipple given that it's nearly Xmas.
Doors open at 7pm and the music will start sometime after 7.30pm
