It's been an age since the Rhode Island trio led by songwriter and author Kristin Hersh with veteran bandmates David Narcizo and Bernard Georges played in NZ, they've locked in their first Wellington headline date in sixteen years, returning to San Fran on 9th December. Auckland fans have had to wait even longer, a mind-boggling three decades for Throwing Muses' return — playing at Double Whammy on 10th December — their first performance in the super city since 'Bright Yellow Gun' ruled 95bFM's airwaves back in 1995.
Throwing Muses have been prodigious as ever during the past half decade, unveiling the raucous Sun Racket in 2020 (hailed by The Quietus as "a stunning return to form") and the opulent Moonlight Concessions in March, they promise career-spanning sets, dipping into their enviable songbook at both headline events. Swiftly returning down under following her March solo tour, read Mitch Marks' engrossing recent interview with Hersh HERE and give Throwing Muses a warm welcome back, brought to you by Plus1...

Press release:
Throwing Muses - one of the most acclaimed US college bands of the 1990s - will perform two New Zealand shows in December.
Plus1 proudly presents Throwing Muses live at San Fran, Wellington on 9 December, and Double Whammy in Auckland on 10 December.
Formed by Kristin Hersh with high school friends, the band pioneered a new alternative sound, releasing a string of critically celebrated albums and touring the world.
Throwing Muses - featuring Kristin Hersh, David Narcizo and Bernard Georges - recently released new album ‘Moonlight Concessions’ which has been described by Pitchfork Magazine as: “A stunning return to form”.
‘Moonlight Concessions’ goes back to basics, a return for Throwing Muses to their esoteric off-kilter best courtesy of Kristin’s pin-sharp sketches and their suitably abrasive musical arrangements. The album follows ‘Sun Racket’ from 2020, a heady set filled with tough and tender tales spiked with surreal imagery.
Don't miss Throwing Muses performing their career-spanning concerts in Auckland and Wellington in December.
