Joel Stibbard and Josh Durno are two singer/songwriters who originally hail from the Australian island state of Tasmania.
Joel Stibbard formed The Gallant Trees in 2009 as a way to support his songwriting. Their first album, 'Music For Frustrated Ornithologists', was a take on all things avian. Written and produced by Joel with the exception of one track 'Mother Nature' written by Joel's sister Beth, the album was released in 2012. It featured 'I'd Rather Be Birdwatching' and 'Pigeons Are The Best Headbangers' just to name a few songs. The next phase of the band saw the introduction of Alistair, Sonja and Gordon to the band with the lineup completed in early 2014 in time for the recording of the second album 'Open Book Syndrome' later that year.
Josh Durno is the singer and songwriter from Hobart garage-rock/folk trio, The Sketches. The Sketches is the second incarnation of Durno's music, having previously played as a solo artist throughout Tasmania and in Melbourne, and having appeared at the 2011 and 2012 Cygnet Folk Festivals in his own right. The Sketches have restyled their music into a simple yet energetic performance of self-penned songs in an Australian accent.
The pair have toured in the Australian states of Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, topping that off with their debut tour of New Zealand in April 2015 where they visited Wellington, Timaru, Dunedin and Oamaru.
This time around, they plan to attack the North Island first, performing together and alone in their eclectic, quirky and entertaining double-set!
The duo will be playing their Hamilton show at
Nivara Lounge on Wednesday, 22nd Apr, 2:00pm.
Doors sales will be $15, or $10 for HAMC members.
