Premiere: Créme Jéan Shares Stargazing Single 'Astrology Ace'

Chris Cudby / Friday 10th May, 2019 9:00AM

Créme Jéan is the garage-pop recording project of Auckland's Brad Fafejta, ex-helmsman of such party-starting units as Thousand Island and Brand New Math, and co-leader of triple threat local legends TeenWolf, alongside Vincent H.L. and Chelsea Nikkel aka Princess Chelsea. Both of those musical pals have guested on catchy previous tunes from Créme Jéan, his debut single 'Sleepin' (At My House)' and current student radio hit 'Dirty Dogs'. Fafejta has now thrown down the gauntlet with 'Astrology Ace', the stargazing fourth release from his keenly anticipated debut album Créme Emporium. Like a Nuggets-era rocker beamed into the topsy turvy realm of the 21st Century, Fafejta sounds frazzled yet optimistic, eagerly tackling heady themes of mysticism, predestination and social dynamics with his fuzzy latest anthem.

Créme Emporium is dropping in late May on all digital channels, and its era will be ushered in with a record release knees up at Auckland's Wine Cellar with DBLDBL and Hang Loose. Créme Jéan's live band features Fafejta alongside members of Dictaphone Blues, Bad Timing and Dead Little Penny (as well as UTR Assistant Editor Annabel Kean), so you're in for a bloody great show. When pressed for his thoughts on the new tune, Fafejta said "I'm a Virgo, but I disagree. ['Astrology Ace' is] kind of like confidence clarion call, like Snap's 'I've Got The Power'. When you talk to people who believe in destiny, they're just so confident. I'd like some of that".

'Créme Emporium' is out Friday 24th May via all digital channels. You can catch Créme Jéan at their launch party that night with Dbldbl and Hang Loose at Auckland's The Wine Cellar.
