Angel Olsen Announces New Album 'Whole New Mess' + Shares Title Track / Video

When US alt-pop powerhouse Angel Olsen released her panoramic fourth studio album All Mirrors last year, she teased fans with the promise there'd be a companion record to the ambitious opus on the way. Releasing in late August and featuring stripped-back versions of songs from All Mirrors alongside brand new numbers (eleven tracks all up), Olsen's aptly titled Whole New Mess is in fact envisioned to be an intimate and personal complete work in its own right. Olsen gifts us a first taste from the record with the woozily jangling guitars and country-inflected balladry of the title track – singing like a spectre in the night "When it all fades to black, I’ll be gettin’ back on track" in the gorgeously minimal visuals shot and directed by Ashley Connor.

Angel Olsen opened up about the personal feelings expressed on Whole New Mess: “I had gone through this breakup, but it was so much bigger than that — I’d lost friendships, too... When you get out of a relationship, you have to examine who you are or were in all the relationships. I wanted to record when I was still processing these feelings. These are the personal takes, encapsulated in a moment.”

'Whole New Mess' releases on Friday 28th August via Jagjaguwar / Inertia Music.
