Sharon Van Etten Shares Single / Video 'Porta'

Back with her first solo track since 2020's 'Let Go', US pop-rock queen Sharon Van Etten shares 'Porta' and a gorgeous #fitspo music video. Written two years ago during a particularly gnarly bout of depression, Van Etten says "During this time I felt very dissociated. Not connected to my body and I felt out of control", and it was linking up with a pro pilates friend that eventually helped her feel hopeful again. For all the heart on its sleeve heaviness of 'Porta's lyrics, the track is big and bright with punchy snare and uplifting synths, building into an epic bridge which leaves me about as breathless as I would be at that point in the video's pilates routine. "I loved our sessions. I looked forward to them. I started feeling closer to her, and closer to myself, and it helped things seem hopeful. And I just wanted to share that with the world. Instead of the darkness. Instead of my fears. My message is to work through them. Even when it's hard. Even when it hurts. Reach out.
