Listen To Ryan Fisherman's New Album 'Country EMO'

Chris Cudby / Friday 22nd September, 2023 10:10AM

Ryan Fisherman sends us spinning into spring with the Cantabrian songwriter / multi-instrumentalist's first new solo long player since 2020's standout Vibe. Frankenstein-ing together two hot musical topics into one irresistible title, Fisherman's songs on Country EMO emanate almost tangible, time-worn and rustic textural qualities, recorded entirely by the artist with guest vocals by Anita Clark (Motte), additional guitar and synth by Ben Woods, and mastering by De Stevens.

Feeling both intimate and open-hearted in scope, highlights from Country EMO include the alluringly warbly lo-fi pop of opener 'I'm Fine' ("I thought I was fine / Turns out it's all a lie"), the gently affirming croons and eagle-like solos of 'Travel', the soul-elevating cinematic crunchy hooks of closer 'The Tip', and rollicking tumbleweed-like recent single 'End'. Country EMO is a not-so-quietly impressive, high quality sophomore outing to be sure. Dig out your stetson hat and eyeliner, go catch the artist at next month's Now!here!this! Ōtautahi 2023 experimental music festival (most likely in an improvisational mode), and hit play on Fisherman's generosity of new tunes below...

'Country EMO' is out today on major streaming services.
