Weekly Roundup: Friday 7th September

Weekly Roundup: Friday 7th September

Friday 7th September, 2012 1:13PM

Good and band news for drone/doom metal fans this week. Bad news first,  Sunn O))) announced the cancellation of their Australian and first ever New Zealand shows with Pelican last weekend due to differences with the Australian promoter. Local promoter RW Entertainment has been working all week to salvage the NZ shows and will have word either way on Monday. The good news though is VERY good with Seattle drone legends Earth in the country this weekend playing their first ever New Zealand shows. They play Wellington tonight and Auckland tomorrow - full details here.

We expect there to be a burst of summer tour announcements in the coming weeks, this week we caught rumours of some Big Day Out sideshows and Animal Collective all but confirmed they were coming when talking to Charlotte Ryan on 95bFM. Speaking of bFM, just announced yesterday, we are teaming up with the station to celebrate the coming of summer with a party at Wine Cellar and Whammy later this month - Heart Attack Alley, Sunken Seas, 1995, Las Tetas and heaps more awesome acts are playing, full details here.

Laneway Festival
have announced today that they are returning to the Silo Park in 2013 bigger and better than ever, the lineup will be revealed on Wednesday 26th September with Cat Power, who released her new album Sun this week,  being the latest hot rumour.   Former Laneway attendees The xx made their new album Coexist available to stream this week as did Bob Dylan via Itunes with new album Tempest  and  David Byrne and St Vincent who's colab album Love This Giant is out today.

The Going Global Music Summit, back for it's second year, is in full swing with a host of interesting folks from the around the world sharing their knowledge FREE. Taking place today and tomorrow in Auckland with a double stage free gig happening at Galatos tomorrow night, the event will then head south to Christchurch with seminars during the day on Monday and another free gig that night - full details here.

As you'll see below, it's a massive weekend for local shows and tonight in Auckland is particularly busy as Arch Hill  Recordings celebrate the long awaited arrival of Beach Pigs and Street Chant's 7" records with a party at Wine Cellar and Whammy Bar, Dictaphone Blues launch their new video at the Kings Arms, the Shocking Pinks play their first show in years at Cassette Nine and Christchurch band The Dance Asthmatics make their Auckland debut at the Lucha Lounge with Ghost Wave  - check out their awesome new track below.
