About Wildcard from Christchurch

Formed in Christchurch in 2006,WildCard were founded on the enlightened but ambitious premise that it might be possible to bring rock music back to their home town. Starting as a covers band WildCard set out to make a real impression with their live act, they made a name for themselves at Irish Pub Micky Finns playing rock covers and slipping in the odd original here and there to see the reaction. Before long people were asking about CD's and whether WildCard had anything recorded, unfortunatly they did not. Despite the initial success, original WildCard front-man 'Boy' took an extended break of which he did not return which in turn opened up the spot for James Attwood who took a shining to the spotlight straight away. It felt like a new beginning for the band so they decided, 'to hell with the covers, lets rock this city', and thats what they did and have been doing for the past 8 months. With help from some great support acts such as Band Theft Auto, sunSwitch, and The Low Spark, WildCard have been able to get their music heard. Their first live show at the Dux de Lux was fantastic, they packed it out and made a record bar take, which was a great starting point for the band. Since then they have played at numerous live shows around Christchurch and are also planning some shows abroad. WildCard just finished recording there demos and that is available for free download on this page and are currently organising the recording of their debut album. Described by some as Incubus meets Foo Fighters and by other as just Rock n Rock, WildCard is the kind of band to send New Zealand rock music around the world.

"WildCard play a mix of epic rock ballads and good fast rock 'n' roll - their sound being described as a marriage of Foo Fighters and Incubus. WildCard began life as a covers bandwith regular spots at Irish pub Micky Finn's, but a strong audience reaction to their original songs has encouraged the group to perform their own material." ~ Matt Davey, The Press
