Gig Information

Once again the amazing Otis Mace Combo ventures forth to the lovely Cupid bar to dish up some more dishy and demented melodramatic reptilian lounge folk, this time with the added zest of Amy Shuang Wang on bass for most of the set . Those of you familiar with the this beloved trio will know that this allows John Segovia to play the steel guitar in the lap of luxury. Amy's band - Raging Flowers wowed the crowd at our last gig , but this time we have a most spectacular and erudite act on the bill in the form of WILDCARDS AOTEROA .

Wild Cards Aotearoa
Catch one of most distinctive voices in New Zealand poetry, David Eggleton, live and out loud.

Wild Cards Aotearoa, based in Ōtepoti Dunedin, are ex-New Zealand Poet Laureate David Eggleton, with guitarist and vocalist Richard Wallis, and percussionist and bassist Hiliako Iaheto (of the award-winning Pasifika reggae band 'Koile).

David Eggleton is a jazz-bop-beatnik poet whose poems never cease to amaze and astound.

He's a freestyling op-shop surrealist and fairground carnival barker, rhyming to a rhythmic beat.

Together, Wild Cards Aotearoa provide a cultural and political vision of Aotearoa New Zealand's contemporary place in the South Pacific – Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa – which is at once local and yet not quite recognisable or predictable. This is a cabaret presentation that's lyrical and satirical, comical and fantastic – and totally up to the minute.
To open the live sets will be Lola Veronica, intertwining themes of language, climate, and personal experience, Lola Veronica’s style blends the intensity of spoken-word poetry with the immediacy of music and song.
'A talent on fire - a wonder!' - Mike Chunn.

Before- between and after the acts DJ Nancy Ray will spin the disks that fill the voids of change overs.

For this show we welcome our sponsors Amigos Aotearoa who have helped big-time with promotions for the night and will be offering a free sample of their fine Mezcal to the first 20 or so guests.
