Situated in the leafy suburb of Mt Eden, not far from the central city, The Lab Recording Studio is in a superb location. There is plenty of free parking and a short stroll will take you to a selection of good food and coffee shops and dangerously close liquor shop. The studio itself is in the basement of an old picture theatre, and during the rock'n'roll boom of the '50s and '60s was a popular dance hall where the groups of the era played. The polished Kauri dance-floor remains and is an important feature of the studio's live recording space.
The Lab is a medium/large versatile music studio, featuring a spacious live room, 4x3m iso booth and a comfortable control room with a Pro-Tools HD2 Accel suite, a custom vintage Neve console and a superb assortment of leading edge and vintage sought after compressors, preamps and FX units and some unusual treats to boot. Microphones are also well covered, with the cabinet containing well known classics and a few oddities. Also on hand is a stable of instruments for use if necessary.
Control Room
Over recent years, The Lab has undergone a transformation, which has taken it from a small project studio to what it is now, a well equipped, world-class facility whilst still managing to hold on to the relaxing, laid back vibe, which has always been an important point of difference.
With a client list that now spans a large majority of the established New Zealand music community (and many internationals as well), The Lab and it's experienced staff is equipped to take on projects from all genres and able to provide production values of the highest calibre.
