Bazurka is a dynamic band based in Pōneke, that specializes in traditional folk songs from the rich tapestry of the Balkan states; Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, and Romania. Their music does an authentic job of paying homage to the folk and Roma musical traditions that they draw inspiration from, while defying the boundaries of genre with their refreshingly original sound.
Since forming in 2015, Bazurka have wowed audiences all over the country, touring to Auckland, Hawkes Bay, Nelson, Christchurch, and Golden Bay. They released their debut album Novi Grad All Stars in May 2023, an eclectic mix of deep grooves, sultry ballads, and blazing melodic lines. Catch them live one night only in Kirikiririroa, as they make their way north to play at the Auckland Folk Festival in Kumeū.
Bazurka will be supported by local acoustic folk duo Big Sigh.
