Dragkroka invites you a night of stories of both great pain and drunken shenanigans, music passed down through the generations without a single sheet of writing, new compositions inspired by the great masters of old, and far older, far more dangerous compositions learnt from the enigmatic being known as the Näcken.
The band consists of:
Alfred Bergkvist - Mandola
Rasmus Hemström - Nyckelharpa
Henry Burtonwood - Fiddle
The trio began in 2022 when Henry left New Zealand to follow his passions for Nordic folk music. They met at Skurups Folkhögskola where they studied Swedish folk music, and bonded over their shared love of the powerful dance groove of the Swedish tradition. Alfred and Rasmus continued their studies of folk music at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, and Henry joined them there for a semester while he studied the Nordic Master in Folk Music. During this degree he spent 2 years traveling around the Nordics, studying at the various folk music academies in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway, diving deep into the folk music traditions of each country. Now graduated as a Nordic Master, Henry is bringing Dragkroka to New Zealand to share the incredible music he has experienced in his travels.
Entry is free so bring your best folk dance moves and come enjoy a beer with Dragkroka.
There will some roaring Nordic folk music from 4pm till 7pm.
See you at Golden Bear!
