General Kala - Described as Ultravox meets Kate Bush
Now based in Auckland, the band are bringing their singular sound back to Wellington to perform their 90-minute set of original, synthesiser-driven music at the Rogue and Vagabond.
Taking their lead from classic analog-synth acts of the late 1970s and early '80s, as well as progressive and rock luminaries of both decades, Kala infuses visceral, soaring, melodic dance composition with vintage synthesis and syncopated rhythm (courtesy of Mathiassen, also drummer for Shapeshifter and Kora). The original lineup of Christina Cusiel (vocal and synth), Jonny Spence (synths and vocal) and Darren Mathiassen (drums) is still in place for 2026, with six EPs released last May (plus another four to be released this year) through Pulse Science Recordings.
