Wellington is treated to a double hit of indie shoegaze on Thursday, 30 April 2026. Two rising local acts — Felix Bird and Because Robots — take the stage at Valhalla, 154 Vivian Street for a night of inventive songwriting, lush soundscapes, and high‑energy performance. Doors open at 8pm, with koha entry.
FELIX BIRD
Fresh off hitting #1 on Radio Active’s Top 11, alternative rock songwriter Felix Bird returns to the stage. His sound navigates the space between clever, vulnerable honesty and lush sonic craftsmanship. Amalgamating the best of folk and indie, Bird’s live performance with his band weaves together driving arpeggios and 90s-inflected nostalgia.
BECAUSE ROBOTS
Opening the night at 8:30pm, Because Robots bring an atmospheric edge with their shoegaze‑meets‑grunge sound. The band is celebrating their early rise, returning for only their second ever show after releasing their debut demo EP Smorgasbord. Their sound is a buffet of staticy textures and melodic hooks, reminiscent of the experimental spirit of acts like Sparklehorse or early Wilco. Expect a set that shifts effortlessly from intimate, lo-fi moments to wall-of-sound distortion.
