Join us for our 40th birthday!
We celebrate this milestone with a programme including not one but TWO forty-part pieces! We are delighted to present Thomas Tallis' iconic Spem in alium, featuring eight distinct choirs, and considered by many as the greatest piece of English early music. This is paired with the New Zealand premiere of Jaakko Mäntyjärvi's Tentatio, a strange, complex, and moving response to Spem depicting Christ’s forty days of temptation by the Devil.
We round out these two colossal works with our favourite music from the Tudor period, including pieces that were performed at our first ever concert on 23 April 1986. We are thrilled to be collaborating with director Jacqueline Coats and joined by a number of Tudor Consort alumni for this very special concert!
