Hannah in the Wars are fronted by singer-songwriter and composer Hannah Curwood — a force of nature on stage with a voice and presence that draws comparisons to PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Anna Calvi and Sharon Van Etten.
Expect an exhilarating mix of dark folk and upbeat, dancy post-punk — brooding one moment, irresistibly fun the next. Their live show is equal parts intensity and cheeky good time, with a reputation for pulling you in and not letting go.
The band’s debut album was produced by Roger O’Donnell (The Cure) and recorded by Paul Corkett (Nick Cave, Björk), and their performance history spans from Glastonbury and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to stages across Aotearoa. Collaborators have included Shayne Carter, Jen Cloher and Geoff Maddock.
Catch them live at the WAA! Club, Nelson — Friday 5 June. Come ready to move.
