Fearless dream pop soloist Nicky by Nicky launches his new album Image Search on 31 July at Vogelmorn Upstairs, in what will be his first Te Whanganui-a-Tara solo show. Co-headlining is Grayson Gilmour, award-winning song writer, film score composer and So So Modern member.
Nicky by Nicky’s Image Search is a reverb-drenched bath of sound with bursts of autotune, raw lyrics and crafted pop songs at it’s core.
The record reveals a new found artistic freedom for the former Cut off Your Hands singer. “It’s a privilege to share a project that I’ve felt most aligned in producing... my desire for external validation is at an all time low. Happy to be doing this for me and to love what I’ve done.”
Don’t miss Grayson Gilmour’s first live solo outing in years. Taking a break from the forthcoming So So Modern record and scoring films, this show marks a rare moment for him to explore his rich back catalogue, play the piano, and employ his synth and drum machine collection in service of his solo work.
With a new solo record in slow-gestation that he describes as less song based, Grayson has embarked on a new exploratory process that harks back to his composition studies and early ambient drone performances.
Expect to hear some electronic improvisation and sampling experiments appearing in this set, alongside the analogue touchstone of the Vogelmorn Upstairs house piano.

Vogelmorn Upstairs is not a wheelchair accessible building. There is an accessible bathroom in the space. This is an all ages venue but those under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a designated adult after 8pm. The Vogelmorn Precinct is a community space located in a residential area. With that in mind, the team ask that you be kind to others' and that when you leave the gig, you do so quietly to avoid disturbing our neighbours.
