In his shimmering melodic debut The Cockroach, Warner Emery
conjures up a distinctly modern kiwi folklore, or Pirate Folk, as
mesmerising and sparkling as the starry southern skies. Warner
Emery’s songs sway simply between a colloquial Flying Nun
type folk into an almost Medieval mystical lullaby. Within his
deceptively humble ballads lies the considered precision of a
master songwriter and an inspired artist.
Warner Emery is a musician & song writer living in Ahuriri,
Aotearoa. He has previously released music as The Friendly
Barnacle, Hot Swiss Mistress and Double Ya D and performed
as a member of The Phoenix Foundation and The Tape Wolves.
The Cockroach is available on Vinyl LP and digital
formats from August 7, 2026.
