As part of Wellington Jazz Festival, The Undercurrent presents Minjoon Kim Quintet!
Auckland bass player Minjoon Kim presents his compositions drawing inspiration from his cultural background and heritage, as well as great modern day composers such as Immanuel Wilkins, Ben Wendel and Noah Preminger.
Minjoon has put together a colossal band comprising of internationally acclaimed musicians: saxophonist Iggy Nama Ruci (Auckland), guitarist Theo Thompson (Wellington), pianist Lucas Kewell (Switzerland), and drummer Max Crook (Auckland). Minjoon leads this indispensable group in an attempt to demonstrate musical conceptualization and evolving the music in real time through intuition and communication using the foundational groundwork that his compositions provide.
