In response to the many bullshit and cruel bills passing under the current government, which do not serve our community, our rights or taiao, I am hosting a series of fundraising/enrolment/protest gigs across Pōneke over Sep-Oct.
The kaupapa of this series is to encourage you to ‘MAKE A MOVE’ by enrolling to vote and rallying others to vote. Let’s utilise the spaces live music provides to put into practice our responsibility as a community to support each other. Funds raised will go to DCM (Downtown Community Ministry) and Wellington City Mission, two organisations doing incredible mahi to support our street whānau.
Our first gig is on September 11th @ Moon. Doors at 8:30.
NAAKZ & BABYZOOT
“Naakz & Zoot classic duo like pie and chips”
Although pie and chips may not be the most classic duo, the synergy that artists Manaaki Andrew Tibble (Naakz) and Kahukuranui Hunter-Brown (Zoot) possess is undeniable. Naakz, Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Raukawa ki Te Tonga, is a rapper/producer from Pōneke. His musical journey began early, as he was part of numerous kapa haka groups and musicals through his rangatahitanga. Zoot, Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairoa, is an emerging artist, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Whakatū. Originally a self-taught jazz pianist and producer, his focus has settled in a soul/hip-hop and jazz framework. Disciples of Pōneke’s BADTAB, their years of experience working in a band context have fostered a unique culmination of different influences, styles and techniques. To quote Moana Jackson, “To be born Māori is to be born politically active”.
