Pōneke post-punks So So Modern celebrate the release of their new EP Light Years, their first new material in 13 years, with a whānau-friendly, all-ages matinee show at their local Newtown Community Centre.
So So Modern built their reputation as one of Wellington’s most renowned live acts through relentless touring alongside international acts like Foals, CSS, Deerhoof and Dirty Projectors. After an extended break the band returned to play new songs alongside old at Camp a Low Hum 2024 and more recently Great Sounds Great. Now, this special all-ages show offers a chance for all generations of music fans to see So So Modern live, with the added bonus of being a great way to avoid election anxiety (ENROL TO VOTE).
With a sound built on complex and chaotic layering of synthesisers, guitars and rhythm, the band’s latest release Light Years shows clarity, restraint and simplicity. The limited 12” vinyl release by Flying Nun and Holiday Records is accompanied by the illuminating artwork by Lily Paris West on two exclusive colourways. To mark the occasion the band are also selling the first ever So So Modern T-shirts, featuring an exclusive design by all-time friend and national treasure, Toby Morris.
Local supports to be announced.
Ear plugs will be provided but bringing your own ear protection is encouraged, especially for under-5s.
