Gig Information

Wrangler presents SUMMER OF MUM: three nights of the best in independent music across summer at Cassette Nine, Auckland.

As a brand that has pioneered hard-wearing denim for hard-living people over the past 100 years, Wrangler has become synonymous with rock ‘n roll - both the lifestyle it evokes and for their support of emerging music talent. This summer, Wrangler has teamed up with Cassette Nine Auckland to present ‘Summer of MUM’: three nights showcasing the best alternative bands around.

November 2nd: CUT OFF YOUR HANDS, Tom Lark, Space Ventura

November 30th: DIE! DIE! DIE! Paquin and guests

January 10th: UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA and guests

DOOR SALES ONLY: $10.00

Die! Die! Die! are a New Zealand alternative rock institution. They’ve released three full-length albums including this year’s atmospheric and challenging album, Harmony. The trio are revered for their assaulting, relentless live shows and will play Cassette Nine – with support from nineties alt-rock-influenced locals Paquin – on November 30th right off the back of their North American and European tours.

Cut Off Your Hands are one of New Zealand’s most celebrated alternative rock bands. They rose to prominence with pop singles like ‘Oh Girl’ and ‘Still Fond’ and for their 2011 full length album, Hollow the band took a lilting, melancholic approach garnering them comparisons to the likes of The Smiths. Cut Off Your Hands will play Cassette Nine with support from Tom Lark (currently playing CMJ Music Marathon in New York City) and Space Ventura on November 2nd.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra is New Zealander and ex-Mint Chick, Ruban Nielson who re-located to Portland, wrote a psychedelic pop track in his basement and was immediately discovered by the likes of Pitchfork.com and Stereogum.com and signed to cult record label Fat Possum. UMO released their debut, self-titled album last year to critical acclaim and have been nominated at the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards 2012 for both Best Alternative Album and Best Solo Artist. UMO head to New Zealand in January to support Weezer at Vector Arena on January 11th and will play Cassette Nine Thursday January 10th.
