Jay is the quintessential Soul, Funk, Jazz,
Rare Groove, Boogie “Selecta “who has toured (Jamiroquai, BNH), promoted and DJ with some heavy weight acts throughout England and Europe.
He is known for his eclectic soulful style and crate diggin. Hunting out rare musical masterpieces and breaking these tunes on to the dance floors of today.
Jay co-founded “Fat Alberts Gang”, a Funk, Soul and Jazz movement out of Canterbury in Kent. The “Takin Off” nights at the Penney Theatre were
legendary. Takin Off DJ’s and acts included ; Giles Peterson, Norman Jay, Kev Beadle, Patrick Forge, Ian & Rob, Brand New Heavies, Young Disciples,
Guru, De la Soul, Roy Ayres, Carleen Anderson, UFO and Jamiroquai and many more quality artists and DJ’s. :
On a house tip he has jammed with Pete Tong, Oakenfold, Seb Fontaine, Danny Rampling, MAW, to name but a few, mixing classic house gems with soul
infused funk. Resulting in a few lost summers in Ibiza (Clock Work Orange, Pacha, Manumission, Space, and Café del Mar) at the height of the mid 90’s
produced some amazing edits … from disco to jazz.
After many years of collecting & spinning, Jay is now living in beautiful Aotearoa Fat Albert has dusted off the Vinyl and slapped on the headphones to host Radio Ponsonby 107.7FM. Fat Alberts Rare Groove show 10am – 12pm every Saturday on Expect the unexpected with musical influences of many many styles.
