Rob Thorne will perform contemporary compositions using traditional Maori musical instruments and loop technology
Rob Thorne (Ngati Tumutumu), a Palmerston North musician of 25 years experience, has been researching, playing and performing taonga puoro since 2001. In the last 3 years he has been developing and performing epic-length orchestrated compositions using live loops that allows him to ensemble the instruments in a way that is musically & culturally challenging and beautifully ambient.

In one of his rare performances. A one man band with compositions and variations for small silver guitar, intercoms, endless cassette, chord organ, spring reverb, buzzbox, drums and voice. The struggle between sinking and swimming, swallowing water and going to the toilet either way since 1991.
