Keepsakes is the moniker of UK-born, Auckland-based, producer/DJ James Barrett. After moving to Auckland in 2011 he began working under the name Keepsakes on mostly mellow dark house and garage influenced tracks. The following year he began writing with Auckland producer, Tommy Flowers. They released their first EP in late 2012 on Flowers’ own ’Nuff Said imprint and earlier this year Keepsakes put out his first solo release on Polish label Sequel One Records, February 2013, with the bass heavy Kontaina receiving significant attention on the esteemed XLR8R blog, remaining in the top five rated downloads several months past release..
In the time of his last release Keepsakes has fully embraced the sounds and ideals of Techno, heavily influenced by pioneering British producers such as Surgeon and Regis, and the recent output of new labels emerging from this burgeoning scene. Not over-playing out in Auckland clubs, Keepsakes’s sets are fast garnering a not to be missed reputation. You can get a taste of what to expect via his weekly show over on Base FM, Tuesdays 10 till midnight, with co-host Bob Sacamano.
