Gig Information

Vector Arena & 95bFM are proud to announce the return of Marlon Williams to The Great South Pacific Tuning Fork in July as part of his 4-date tour to celebrate the release of his new single “Strange Things”.

He will also introduce local audiences to one of Australia’s finest young singer-songwriters, Melody Pool.

Williams has been making a big name for himself in Australia since relocating in mid-2013. Australia’s leading folk/roots magazine Rhythms have labelled him the “Artist To Watch” in 2014; he made his national TV debut on SBS’ Rockwiz show last week; performed at the Sydney Opera House for TEDx Sydney in April, and has been announced as the main support for First Aid Kit’s Australian tour in July.

He recently returned to his hometown of Lyttelton to record his debut solo album, and “Strange Things” (released 28 May) is the first taste of what is to come. Lilting, quirky, beautiful and haunting, “Strange Things” offers a taste of Williams’ dark sense of humour, and ability to find magic in the morbid.

Melody Pool is a young artist with an old soul. Her debut album, The Hurting Scene, sends the listener time-travelling to coffee houses in the late ’60s, with songs reminiscent of early Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne.

Melody has spent the last 12 months touring the World, including a sold-out tour of the UK and Europe with The Milk Carton Kids, and also the Americana Music Festival in Nashville.

Crowdfunding enabled Melody to make The Hurting Scene in Nashville with producers Jace Everett and Brad Jones. Featuring tales of lost love, infidelity and asserting independence, The Hurting Scene contains a dozen original songs that are beguiling and bittersweet. “I’m in love,” Melody sings, “and you’re to blame.”

The Hurting Scene will be released in New Zealand on June 13th.

Newcomer Aldous Harding will also support all 4-dates on the tour, having just released her self-titled debut on Lyttelton Records. Co-Produced by Williams, the album has been critically acclaimed, with Rip It Up magazine giving it 4 stars, and Radio NZ’s Nick Bollinger calling Harding a “unique new voice” who “shifts the air with rarefied grace”.
